Course Description: Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail.
Course Narrative: In this course I learned the importance of having the accurate translations because if they aren't accurate they are going to lode their meaning when the texts are being translated into the target language. This course was one of my favorite courses that I have taken because it was very appealing to me because I have always like to translate things and this course we got to translate all sorts of things from news reports to translating certain jokes and finding the equivalent to the phrases of the opposite language.
