Students demonstrate that they have actively immersed themselves in authentic Hispanic cultural and linguistic environments and have internalized the language and cultural experience, from which they have developed personal understanding and new perspectives of Hispanic communities. Note: Students develop intercultural communication skills and strategies, and learn to adapt and respond in effective ways. This MLO may be fulfilled by a study abroad experience or equivalent. Courses taken in a study abroad program may count toward another MLO. Students who choose Pathway 2 will be working on a community project to fulfill this requirement.
Reflection: For this major learning outcome, I unfortunately did not get the chance to go study abroad. Instead, I got the chance to do a community project, this project consisted of me going out to the community and conducting a couple interviews with two community members. For my interviews I based my questions off of my HCOM 345: Chicano Life & Culture class that I took Spring ‘17. I was able to gain a better understanding on other people's point of view on the Chicanx community and of those who identify as chicanx. This community project was a great learning experience for my interviewees and for myself as well.
